We are at sea, part way through a 1921 mile voyage. There are over 3000 passengers on board. At 6am when Jan calls down for early morning tea the voice says: Good Morning Mrs Sylvia Cave - will it be the usual ? It took only 2 days to train the man on the other end that they wanted 2x Earl Grey. I went to the bar to get a cork - most bottles onboard are screw or crimped, so a cork was a bit of a tall order. The steward wanted to know why I wanted a cork. I explained it was to adjust the strap on my Rolex now the weather is getting warmer. He speaks little English and detailing that a needle from the cabin sewing kit was to be inserted in the cork to act as a small point to disengage the watch strap pin took me a whole double G&T !! I am pleased to report that the G&T are made with Schweppes. On the other hand the Earl Grey branded Sir Winston comes from Istanbul. For Nathan: I managed to set up my laptop as a secure server so I can run a couple of databases without using expensive wifi time while we are away from land and mobile phone towers. No cert of course. His Mum's mobile phone has credit and reports a signal and has data roaming activated but won't download email, I can't work out why - this is a plea for help from a higher power. Sylvia's appal eyefone just says 'no service' wherever we go, but she also has no credit loaded, we emailed her son Matthew to replenish the credit. Lorraine is using a keyboard Blackberry and failing to anything with it at all ! While I was on the laptop this morning, Jan, John and Sylvia started at the bar at 10am - outrageous!! They eventually caved in and returned to a cabin balcony away from the sea of fat, sweating, scantily clad (or nearly naked) dumplings lying around the decks. A large percentage smoke as well. We all attended a quiz show this afternoon in 2 teams. There were 10 questions all repeated in 6 languages. My team got 3 right and John's got 6 (but they were assisted by two strangers) The clocks go foward again tonight. No pictures today. Our next stop is Salalah on Dec 8th |
